Launched in 2017, the HELPS Electric Vehicle Program is a way to reward participating MLPs’ customers who have made the environmentally conscious decision to purchase an electric vehicle.
The program is a collaboration between HELPS, participating MLPs, and local dealerships. Customers who live in a participating MLP territory are eligible for a dealer discount with the purchase of a Chevrolet Bolt, a Nissan LEAF, or a Nissan LEAF Plus.
Additionally, select MLPs offer a free or discounted charger incentive for customers enrolled in the Scheduled Charging Program. This helps the MLP territory by minimizing the vehicle’s impact on the electric grid, therefore reducing costs for all customers in that area.

Customers who agree to participate in the Scheduled Charging Program allow their vehicle charging to be reduced during peak hours from 5:00-9:00 p.m. on non-holiday weekdays. This period of time coincides with peak energy and fossil fuel usage for the MLP territory and New England as a whole.
10 HELPS MLPs participate in the EV Program.
There are more than 70 connected chargers enrolled through the HELPS Scheduled Charging Program.
MLPs participating in the EV Program have hosted several events during National Drive Electric Week, which occurs each September.
The HELPS EV Program resulted in more than 89 tons of CO2 emissions avoided in 2019.
The HELPS EV Program resulted in a charging electricity fuel mix 15% more carbon neutral than national average.
Average participating customer usage is 250 kWh per month.
Average energy usage in one charging session is 20 kWh.
